The Admissions Office Entrance Examination differs from traditional written exams that only look at academic ability in that applicants undergo interview and lecture comprehension assessments before being selected based on their creative thinking abilities and academic ambition amongst many other factors. As with the general exam, any student with the appropriate qualifications to enter university may take this examination.
Purpose of the Admissions Office Entrance Examination
An interview in particular gives an opportunity to examine the applicant’s character, curiosity and drive. A written test following a lecture is a means of measuring the extent of the applicant’s interest in such areas as humanity, society, culture, languages and logic.

Faculty of Humanities Admission Policy
Students should not concentrate on a single subject or assume that a given subject is not important when studying subjects and courses before entering university, because at the university, students will be covering a diverse, multi-tiered array of studies in the field of humanity. The foundations of study in the Faculty of Humanities are the abilities to speak, write and converse effectively with others. Constructive reasoning and communication skills across a wide range of areas are critical. While a basic facility with Japanese and foreign languages is foundational, knowledge of, and interest in, every other field also invariably play an important role. With regards to Japanese, mathematics, geography, history, civics and foreign languages (English), at least ability consistent with completion of senior high school is required. In other areas such as science, the arts, computing, home economics and health and physical education, basic knowledge and interest is strongly recommended.
