Yamaguchi University Asian History & Culture Research Society
The group has already published thirteen issues of its journal, The History and Culture of Asia. The Society’s goal is to disseminate nationally and internationally research carried out by the University and its associates (retired staff, overseas associates, etc.) mainly in Chinese Studies. The predecessor to the Asian History & Culture Research Society was the Yamaguchi Chinese Studies Society of the Faculty of Literature & Science era, which published two volumes of The History and Culture of China. The Faculty of Literature & Science became the Faculty of Humanities and a research group on Chinese classics was formed, which compiled Meirinkan Chinese Classics, Standard Indexes of Chinese Classics and Related Literature. Recently, with backing from the University President and Dean of Faculty, the group has focused exclusively on its regular publication The History and Culture of Asia, which presents original research to the wider academic world.
Yamaguchi University German & French Literature Research Society
The German & French Literature Research Society is made up of the University’s German and French language staff. It also includes retired staff as associate members. Each year the Society publishes its scholarly journal German and French Literature with 2009 marking the publication of the 30th issue. German and French Literature is a prolific publisher of essays, translations and scholarly notes. For French and German language staff, the Society and its journal have proven an invaluable platform for disseminating research and sharing ideas with their peers.
Yamaguchi University Faculty of Humanities Japanese Language & Literature Academic Society
The Japanese Language & Literature Academic Society comprises of full members of staff, graduates and current students from the Faculty’s Japanese Language and Literature courses, with retired staff participating as special members.
A general meeting and workshop is generally held in May while in November or December an informal research gathering takes place.
Moreover, every year the Society publishes the Yamaguchi Kokubun, a scholarly journal that includes research papers by members involved with Japanese language, Japanese literature and Japanese language education.
Yamaguchi Regional and Community Studies Academic Society
The Yamaguchi Regional and Community Studies Academic Society was established in October 2002 with the goal of analyzing current social change and related issues in the regional communities of Yamaguchi Prefecture, as well as Japan and the rest of Asia. Taking into account local conditions, university researchers, local administrative representatives, local citizens, NPO workers and others utilize the Society as a forum to express and debate ideas and push their research activity forwards.
Principle activities include thrice-yearly research meetings held, and the publication of the journal, Yamaguchi Regional and Community Studies.
Yamaguchi University Philosophical Research Society
Composed primarily of current Yamaguchi University staff (ten members from the Faculties of Humanities, Education, Economics and Medicine), the Yamaguchi University Philosophical Research Society is a philosophy research group that also includes amongst its members previous teaching staff who have moved to other institutions, part-time lecturers currently teaching philosophy and related classes at Yamaguchi University and other related scholars. Members’ specialties span a wide range of disciplines, including Western Philosophy, Ethics, Aesthetics, Japanese Thought, Chinese Philosophy, Religious Studies and Bioethics.
The Society publishes The Philosophical Research of Yamaguchi University (16th volume published in 2009), and is also involved in joint reviews and seminar activities.
English Language and American & British Literature
English Language and American & British Literature is an academic journal that presents the public with the fruits of research by staff teaching that course, as well as other full-time academic staff at the University. The journal carries mainly research papers and notes related to the academic fields of English Language, English Literature and English Education and it contributes to the promotion of research in each of these areas. It is published once a year, the fiscal year 2009 marking its 44thissue. It is also available in digital form.
